NOW ONSALE! ESA Introductory Crowd Manager Training

The National Fire Protection Association’s Life Safety Code ®, NFPA 101 ®, specifies 10 topics that must be addressed for a person to qualify as a “trained crowd manager.” But the Code says nothing about how those issues should be discussed. 

ESA’s new Introductory Crowd Manager Training is designed for emerging event professionals who work all types and sizes of events and who need to learn the general principles of this critical event safety issue. This course is not designed for experienced, professional crowd management personnel, as previous ESA pre-Summit courses in crowd management training.

While other programs focus on only the largest venues, this scalable ESA training course introduces and discusses the issues a crowd manager will face in a brick-and-mortar venue or on a green field site, and whether the event is a concert, a sporting event, a festival, or a corporate activation.  

WHO SHOULD TAKE THIS COURSE?

Emerging professionals who want to learn what makes event crowds different from other crowds—and to learn what factors help keep event crowds safe—should take this course, including:

 Security

 Guest services

 Event operations

 Production staff

 Event organizers

 Venue managers

 Public safety officials

 Artists and artist representatives

 Insurers

The class will briefly combine with the ESA Weather Safety Training course at the end of the day.

WORKSHOP FEE

Registration for this new entry level workshop is $149 for ESA members/$199 for non- members, which includes course materials, lunch, and refreshments. ABOUT THE INSTRUCTORS

Steven Adelman is an attorney at Adelman Law Group, PLLC, in Norwalk, CT, and serves as vice president of the ESA Board of Directors. David Ellis is a technical advisor at CEIA USA, owner of GEMSEC Consulting LLC, in Phoenix, AZ, and serves as a director on the ESA Board of Directors. Both instructors led the working group in the creation of the American National Standards for Crowd Management and for Event Security, published as ANSI ES1.9-2020 and ANSI ES1.40-2023, respectively.
