From Alberta to Indiana, from wind to lightning to extreme heat, severe weather is one of the most common and potentially dangerous hazards affecting outdoor events. A comprehensive plan to deal with the most foreseeable weather issues for your event is essential to decisions and actions that protect people and property on site. ESA’s Weather Safety for Live Events workshop joins meteorological science and event operations to help event and venue professionals address increasingly volatile weather conditions.
Attendees will examine a comprehensive range of weather scenarios, from ideal conditions to severe weather events such as extreme heat, heavy rain, high winds, and lightning. Emphasis is placed on understanding basic meteorological data, developing effective weather action plans, and implementing the hierarchy of controls to mitigate weather-related risks. Through case studies and practical exercises, students will learn to anticipate and manage the impacts of weather on event operations and the physical safety of all stakeholders. By the end of the course, students will be equipped with the skills necessary to create robust weather safety protocols tailored to the specific needs of live events.
Understanding severe weather is a science all to itself. The Weather Safety for Live Events workshop will provide attendees with the knowledge necessary to identify and prepare for potential threats, and how to use existing technology and expertise in order to safely handle most types of weather events.
